Week 1: Research

Researching Swedes

This week you will be researching "Swedes" and creating a new blog to present your research (and the tasks that follow) on.

During this week you will need to complete the following tasks and post the results on your new blog. You will share you research with the class in the first lesson of next week.

In preparation for the rest of this course you will also need to buy a 8GB SD Card. You will need to have this card ready and with you for the 13th May.

Task 1:

Find out what a "Swede" is

Task 2:

Find as many examples of Swedes as you can and post/embed them onto your new blog.

Task 3:

Answer the question:

What do they have in common?

Task 4:

Write a list of what you think the Codes and Conventions of a Swede are.
Post this list on your new blog.

Task 5:

Pick your favourite Swede you have seen. Post it on the wall at the end of this post.

Create a storyboard of this Swede. This storyboard should map out all the shots used in the film, state how long these shots last and indicate where the edits are.

Scan this storyboard/embed this storyboard into your new blog.

If the wall is too small or crowded use THIS LINK to make it bigger.

Week 2: Planning

Planning Your Swede:

This week you will be planning your own Swede and creating a pitch to present to the class in the first lesson of next week.

Your Swede will last between 2-3 minutes and follow the codes and conventions you have discovered in your research.

When planning your film idea remember these films will be filmed on college grounds and in class time over the course of 2 lessons.

Task 1:

Think of an idea for a Swede you will create.
Decide on the film you are going to "Swede" and the scenes you are going to focus on.

Task 2:

Create a script for this Swede. This can use elements of dialogue from the original film, but should also contain some comic twists of your own.

Task 3:

Create a storyboard for this Swede. This storyboard should map out all the shots you want to use in the film, state how long these shots last and indicate where you want the edits to be.

Task 4:

Create a brief list of props you may use in your film (remember these should be cheap and have a low budget feel to them)

Task 5:

Create a 1-2 minute pitch for your Swede idea. This will be presented to the class on the first lesson back next week (Monday 13th/Tuesday 14th)

You will then vote on the films you want to be made, based on the pitches you have seen. The films with the most votes will be put into production next week.

Week 3: Pitches and Production

Producing your Swede:

Lesson 1:

You will now pitch you idea to the class. After each of you have presented your pitch, the class will vote on the film they liked the best. The 2/3 films with the most votes will then be put into production.

You will be split into groups to work in for the duration of this project so you will need to assign roles to each member of the group, (for example who will act out each part, who will be the camera man for specific scenes etc...). You may end up needing more than one person to operate the camera if you have a lot of acting roles that need to be filled.
Remember to include everyone in this process, everyone should have a role in the film and should be included in the shoot.

You should also discuss what props you will need for this film, you will need to bring these props/costumes in for next lesson when filming will begin.

Lesson 2:

You will use this lesson to begin to shoot your Swede, use the storyboard and script that have been made to help organise your shooting.

Remember to bring any props and costumes you have used to the final lesson of the week, this will be your final lesson of filming.

Lesson 3:

You should complete your filming in this lesson ready for editing next lesson.
